This show exceeded all my expectations - it left me with a real emotional high - I can't remember the last time a show has that kind of impact on me. I last saw the David Lee Roth - Van Halen back in 1980 on Alex's birthday. It was a great show - the band had a great time on stage. I was nervous about going to this show in Providence 28 years later - hoping that the boys could still play and have some fun doing it.

Let me tell you, they can still play. Eddie did some great guitar solos. Alex did a drum solo that rocked the house. Eddie's son blended in nicely and sounded great - he is a dead ringer for his mother. David surprised me - for all the stories about his hard living - he is in amazing shape. Six pack abs and that same huge ego and stage presence that makes him such a great entertainer and front man. David makes Eddie better and Eddie makes David better - they play off each other so well. Providence stood for 2 hours straight. They cranked out hit after hit from the David Lee era. David worked the crowd well - made an early booty call to embarrass some young lady - he is an even more consummate showman than he was in his 20s.

I'd highly recommend this show to anyone. Van Halen can still rock as well as ever. The show is a straightforward old time rock n roll show. Simple stage setup, not much fancy video or special effects. Eddie's signature speaker towers, Alex's drum set, and David bouncing all over the stage - working the mike stand like a bow staff. He even pulls out a bow staff at some points of the show and shows off some of his martial arts technique. He can still do those trademark kicks above his head too.

Take your kid and he gets to see what a real rock n roll show was like back in the real rock era - and you get to be 17 years old again for 2 straight hours. Awesome experience - can't wait to go again! Now if we can just get Roth/Van Halen to do another album together...
